New Wildlife Study Area

Pond Platform

We have completed the construction of a new Wildlife Study Area in Gortbrack. After a very wet summer, the nice dry and warm weather of this Autumn finally let us complete our new pond platform and bird-hide, thanks to The Heritage Council funding.

These two additions are a great improvement to the nature study capabilities for visitors to the farm. One of the favourite activities of our younger visitors from primary schools and groups like scouts and girl guides is pond dipping. Thanks to the pond platform now this can be done on a safer way and without eroding the edges of the pond.

The bird hide was built as a platform inside the barn. It is a quiet secluded area with great views for observation of the wildlife over the ponds and fields of the upper farm without being detected. It is also a good spot for nature photography..

Both developments will give ourselves and visitors to the farm a deeper understanding of the value of biodiversity.

We would like to thank again The Heritage Council for the grant aid for this project.
